As a 501 (c) (3) non profit, all donations made to Nickel Plate Heritage Railroad, which operates the Nickel Plate Express excursions, are tax deductible. Your generous donations help maintain the former Nickel Plate Road and keep our historic equipment up and running for generations to come.

MISSION

The Nickel Plate Heritage Railroad uses immersive experiences to celebrate the history of railroads and to foster curiosity about the past, present and future.

About Us

Nickel Plate Heritage Railroad is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich railroad history of Hamilton County and beyond. We operate Nickel Plate Express and Nickel Plate Railbikes, offering immersive and educational experiences that bring history to life.

Founded in 2017, Nickel Plate Express began running excursions in the fall of 2018 and now welcomes more than 35,000 passengers each year. From themed train rides to scenic railbike tours, our programs are designed to entertain, educate, and connect communities.

Community Impact

As a regional tourism destination, Nickel Plate Heritage Railroad is an economic development asset to Noblesville and northern Hamilton County. Our events and excursions draw thousands of visitors annually, boosting local businesses and fostering pride in our shared rail heritage.

We also manage the historic Arcadia Depot, a 150-year-old station along the former Nickel Plate Road. This beautifully restored building serves as a gateway to the past and a hub for community events, tours, and preservation efforts.

As a nonprofit, all contributions to Nickel Plate Heritage Railroad are tax-deductible—and vital to keeping our trains (and railbikes!) rolling for future generations.
